Sr Girl Goat TyerLouisburg, KS From the Sunflower State comes our Senior Girl World Champion Goat Tyer, Lakin Cunningham. Long time member of the NLBRA we have seen Lakin make short go and take home buckles year after year. In 2015 she was crowned the NLBRA National Princess and spent the year representing the NLBRA, since then she has had several top ten finishes in multiple events from barrel racing to goat tying. She also tied that fastest time of the 2021 NLBRA Finals in the first go with a 6.6 second run. Lakin, also won the Kansas State High School Rodeo Goat Tying title sending her to the National High School Finals Rodeo. She has also competed in the Junior American, Vegas Tuffest, the International Youth Finals Rodeo and several others. This year Lakin will start her freshman year of college at Missouri Valley College where she will rodeo and work hard toward making the College National Finals Rodeo. Written by Shawnee Sagers

Jr Ribbon RoperOpp, AL From AL comes a duo that claimed the top spot at the end of the year. John Gohagan, and his partner claimed the 2021 World Champion Junior Ribbon Roper. With Aiden Perrett as a partner the two of them claimed not only the world title but also the championship buckle in go round number one, the championship buckle in the short go and the National Finals Average Champion buckle. The entire week the team never dropped lower than sixth place. An impressive National Finals and a consistent year the AL boys found themselves victorious and can add the title of World Champion to their collection. Written by Shawnee Sagers
Sr Girl Barrel RacingFremont, MI No stranger to winning, Jessica, took home the Senior Girl World Champion Barrel Racing title. Jessica also won the Michigan High School Rodeo Barrel Racing Championship and Rookie of the Year. Winning this world title “was incredible, unlike anything I have ever experienced.” Riding her horse Famous, she knew he was a horse that could give her a chance. Her sister rode him the year before and placed ninth in the world, “he loves the Lazy E ground and was razor sharp all week!” Jessica’s family raises racehorses, it has taught her to learn to enjoy bloodlines, going to horse sales and helping train them. She gives credit to her oldest sister, who is college rodeoing this year, for teaching her so much about rodeo. As Jessica continues competing she hopes to be able to say at the highest level doing what she loves, setting a goal to win another world title in the barrel racing and adding a breakaway championship to her resume. Sr Boy Tie Down RopingMulberry KS Jake Holmes of Kansas is building quite the reputation for himself in the roping pen. Adding to his accomplishments, Holmes, took home the 2021 NLBRA World Champion Tie Down Roping title. Not only has he claimed this world title but also won a world championship tie down roping in the Junior World Finals in Las Vegas, NV. In addition, he has found success in the Junior American, the International Youth Finals Rodeo and the National Highschool Finals Rodeo. While at the NLBRA Finals he also won the first go round, placing in the top three in the second go and Shorty’s Short Go and taking home the finals average tie down roping buckle. Sr Team Roping HeaderLucedale, MS Mississippi cowboy, Jeb Stewart, claimed the 2021 NLBRA World Champion Senior Heading title. Jeb says “it is like nothing else. Its also the best to do it with you best buddy.” Blake Lyons who completed this team roping duo. With parents that never rodeod it was Jebs aunt and uncle who got him and his older brother started in rodeo. This year Jeb will continue rodeoing in college where he hopes to graduate and compete in the College National Finals Rodeo. He competes on a 10-year-old mare who he just started hauling and “has exceeded all his expectations.” When asked what else he likes to do outside of rodeo he replied with “rope and hang out with friends.” His advice of what is takes to become a champion is to remember “nobody is better than anybody, it takes hard work and dedication and support of friends and family.” Written by Shawnee Sagers
Jr Boy Bull RiderKinder, LA Louisiana gained several new world champions in July, among them was Jace Popillion. Popillion was crowned the 2021 NLBRA World Champion Junior Boy Bullrider! Starting his week off in Guthrie, OK with a win, Popillion, won the first go round in the bull riding, covering his other two bulls. This also won him the National Finals Average Champion Bull Riding Buckle. Jr Girl Pole BenderSt George, UT Making a splash her first year as a Junior Girl is Utah’s own, Izzy Coughlin. In 2020 Izzy claimed the NLBRA Little Wrangler World Champion Barrel Racing title, in 2021 she took home the Junior Girl World Champion Pole Bending championship. When not rodeoing Izzy is training ponies, hitting the UT slopes skiing or enjoying the sun at Lake Powell. On top of her athletic ability she is talented in other ways also being fluent in Chinese. Transitioning her big yellow barrel horse Sis, to poles she set a new personal record in the second go round running a 20.01. As Izzy continues to compete and working towards he goals she says “it is important to always be willing to learn or adjust and focus is key. Jr Boy Breakaway RoperOld Fairmount, GA From Georgia, this All-Around Cowboy brought home the Junior Boy Breakaway World Championship. Houston said “it felt great but was very nervous” while competing for this title. Though it wasn’t his first time loading up a new saddle at the end of the rodeo season as he was the Alabama Little Britches Rodeo year end champion and won three All-Around Cowboy titles when in the GA Junior Rodeo Association. Houston shared this title with his four-legged athlete Cisco, a 14-year-old gelding that his been in his family since he was two. Cisco started as his moms breakaway horse and has since helped Houston win the three previously mentioned All-Around titles and most recently his World Championship. Staying busy fishing, hunting and buying and selling calves, Houston will continue “putting God in first place and practicing everyday” in hopes of winning another World Title. Jr Girl All-Around ChampionHudson, CO Following in her dads footsteps, Harley Ann, has been an NLBRA member for five years. At the 2021 NLBRA Finals she was able to clench the coveted Junior Girl World Champion All-Around Cowgirl saddle. This title was achieved with the help of her four animal athletes, Chief, Ford, Tator and Mighty Mouse. Baas said that winning this title “was really excited, especially to see all my practice paid off.” Qualifying to the National Junior High Finals three times, the National High School Finals and the National Little Britches Finals four times, claiming event and rookie titles along the way, she is no stranger to competing at the highest level. Outside of the arena she enjoys camping, hunting with a bow and rifle, fishing and spending time with her family. Sr Girl Trail Course, Sr Ribbon Roping Roper, Sr Girl World Champion All-AroundYoder, WY This long time NLBRA member left her mark at this years NLBRA Finals, Haiden Thompson, brought home three World Championships: Senior Girl Trail Course, Ribbon Roping and the World Champion All-Around Cowgirl title. No stranger to winning world titles Haiden has won close to 20 World Champion titles in the past 11 years as an NLBRA member. When asked what is was like for her to win these three titles she responded “it was super cool to win the trail on a horse that I trained. It was also super cool to win the ribbon roping because I was roping! There aren’t very many times that a team wins with the girl roping…. so it was EXTRA special that I was roping and we won.” One of seven siblings they all have competed in rodeo and most of them still do. When not at home Haiden spends her days in the home arena with her siblings practicing and training colts to sale so she can enter the next rodeo. This next year she hopes to claim the NLBRA World Champion Breakaway title. “I could’ve never accomplished what I have if it weren’t for my parents, siblings and sponsors.
