Jr Girl Goat TyerYoder, WY Following in her sisters footsteps is Hadley Thompson, a family of champions Hadley adds the 2021 Junior Girl Goat Tying World Championship. The WY cowgirl qualified for the National Finals in multiple events and walked across the winners stage several times throughout the week. Winning two buckles in the barrel racing, two buckles in the trail course, including a first go round win and one of the fastest times of the week. In addition to her many buckles and World Champion saddle, Hadley, finished fifth in the world in the barrel racing and was crowned the 2021 Reserve All-Around World Champion Cowgirl, the National Finals Reserve Champion All-Around Cowgirl and the Junior Girls Trail Course Reserve World Champion. Sr Boy Steer WrestlerNewark, IL Garrett Leatherman of IL, took home one of the beautiful Scott Thomas Custom Saddles this year, winning the 2021 NLBRA World Champion Steer Wrestler. Leatherman claimed this title back to back as he was also the 2020 NLBRA World Champion Steer Wrestler. Not only does Leatherman excel in the steer wrestling pen but also in the roping arena. Being selected to compete in the Junior Ironman again this year in March at the Fabulous Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK. The Junior Ironman is held in conjunction with the Cinch Timed Event Championships. While there Leatherman will have the opportunity to be surrounded by some of the biggest names in professional rodeo while competing in the tie down roping, steer wrestling and team roping on both ends (heading and heeling.) Leatherman has also had many other accomplishments competing in venues like the Junior World, Junior American, National High School Finals and the International Youth Finals Rodeo where he also found himself qualifying for short go’s and walking across the winners stage. Sr Ribbon Roping RunningLaJunta, CO All-Around Cowboy from LaJunta, CO, took home the saddle of Senior Ribbon Roping World Champion. Competing with his partner Haiden Thompson of WY, they came home victorious. Competing in team roping, tie down roping, steer wrestling and ribbon roping he carries himself well in and out of the arena. That is why the NLBRA board selected him to be one of five young men to represent the NLBRA at the Junior Ironman. Bottini will make the trip back to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK the beginning of March. There he will compete during the Cinch Timed Events Championship and be surrounded by some of the biggest names in professional rodeo. Jr Team Roping HeelerManclester, GA Taking a world title back to the Peach State is the young GA cowboy, Gavin Buchanan. After a long year of roping Buchanan roped his way to the World Champion Junior Heeling title. Roping behind his partner, Zoey Carpenter, the team was in the top ten all week long. Finishing as the reserve champion in the first go the team kept the ball rolling, finishing top then in the second go and fourth in the short go, winning them the National Finals Average Championship. This team not only found success in the team roping arena, they also picked up some champion buckles in the ribbon roping during their week in Guthrie. Sr Girl Breakaway RoperHeflin, LA
World Champions are nothing new to this Heflin, LA family. Cody DeMoss, professional saddle bronc rider and world champion, his daughter Darbi DeMoss joins the ranks of elite cowboys and cowgirls that get to call themselves world champions. Darbi was crowned the 2021 World Champion Senior Girl Breakaway Roper. Roping three head in 7.92 Darbi was never left the two second mark. Consistent and fast roping not only won her a world champion saddle, but also added several new buckles to her collection. Placing sixth in the first two go rounds and leaving it all on the arena floor Shorty’s Short Go Sunday, winning the short go and roping her fastest time of the week. This also won her the National Finals Average Champion Buckle. A family of champions and breakaway an ever growing sport this isn’t the last that you’ll see of Darbi DeMoss. Jr Boy Saddle Bronc SteerHampshire, TX Ethan Cart, the 14 year old Texan, took home the Junior Boy Saddle Bronc Steer Riding World Championship. When asked what it was like winning this world title he responded “it was just a great feeling knowing I worked my butt off for it!” This young cowboy is no stranger to the winners circle, he is a two time Texas State Champion Bareback Rider and the 2021 Texas Junior High Rodeo All-Around Champion. In 2020 Ethan also found himself near the winners circle as he claimed the Reserve World Champion Bareback Steer Buckle. On the way to the this championship he had his brother along side of him also riding broncs and let us know his parents have helped him his whole life. Outside of rodeo Ethan likes to work cows and ride colts. To become a champion he says you have to have “dedication and hard work, along with a passion for rodeo if you want to succeed in it.” In the future Ethan hopes to win the NLBRA All-Around Championship and one day make the National Finals Rodeo in the Saddle Bronc Riding. Jr Girl Breakaway RoperFreeburg, IL Dakota Murphy, an eighth grader, found herself at the top of the leader board after a long year of competition. She left the Lazy E Arena the 2021 National Little Britches Rodeo World Champion Junior Girl Breakaway Roper. With her partner Frio she not only won the world but also several buckles along the way. Sr Boy All-Around World ChampionSkullbone, TN Connor Griffith of TN took back one of the most sought after titles in rodeo claiming the 2021 Senior Boy All-Around World Champion Cowboy. Competing in everything but bull riding Connor can be found staying very busy during the NLBRA Finals. On top of competing in his six events he is serving his third term on the NLBRA National Youth Board. Connor has spent the last two years representing the NLBRA throughout numerous events and claiming many championship titles along the way. Qualifying to the Junior National Finals Rodeo, the National High School Finals Rodeo and the National Little Britches Finals rodeo, this year he will be able to add one more coveted rodeo to his belt as he has been selected to compete in the Junior Ironman at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK the beginning of March. Senior Boy Bareback RidingGreybull, WY In his final year in the NLBRA Colton was pretty excited to win the Bareback Riding World Championship. His parents David and Lisa have always been supportive of him in and out of the arena. Colton enjoys spending time with his two brothers, hunting and fishing in Wyoming. Coltons dad, David, was also a bareback rider and is given credit for Colton starting the sport. He has competed in the NLBRA Finals three times, the National High School Finals Rodeo Twice and the Junior National Finals Rodeo. This year he is starting at the University of Wyoming, where he hopes he can make his first appearance at the College National Finals Rodeo. Colton didn’t win this World Title alone, he says “it takes a lot of faith in Jesus and a loving family that does everything they can to support you.” Keep your eye open for the young cowboy as he continues to make waves in the rodeo world. Little Wrangler Pole BendingHardin, TX Taking home the Little Wrangler World Champion Pole Bending saddle to Texas, is nine year old Cheyenne. Riding her 11-year-old sorrel gelding, “Cant Bully that Guy” aka “Bully” she has qualified to the Junior World Finals in barrel racing and pole bending. Cheyenne also rodeos with her two brothers, her older brother Konner, who rides bulls and her younger brother Kash who will start his NLBRA career this year. When not rodeoing she enjoys hanging out with her family and reading books. One day Cheyenne hopes to run at the National Finals Rodeo and says “that to be a champion you have to be willing to make sacrifices and put in lots of hard work.” Written by Shawnee Sagers
